Busted. I love when people in the public spotlight make stuff up that sounds good. It’s great, cause it’s so easy to check with the intertubes freely available. It’s just sad that so many people don’t bother checking…
Anyhow, getting back to the anthem: our hand-over-our-heart thing is not only not original, but also FDR never asked for it. We changed this around the time of FDR to keep it from looking like the Nazi / Italian Fascist salute. (Before the hand-over-heart it was the Bellamy salute, named after and suggested by the author of our pledge of allegiance.)
